What Are Peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. They typically consist of 2-50 amino acids, distinguishing them from larger proteins. Peptides play crucial roles in biological processes, acting as signaling molecules, hormones, and regulators of various physiological functions.

Research peptides are synthesized versions of naturally occurring peptides or novel sequences designed for scientific investigation. They are used to study biological mechanisms, receptor interactions, and potential therapeutic applications.

Lyophilized (Freeze-Dried)
Peptides are supplied as a dry powder created by freeze-drying. This form maximizes stability and shelf life.
HPLC Purity
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography is the gold standard for measuring peptide purity. ≥99% indicates research-grade quality.
Reconstitution
The process of dissolving lyophilized peptide powder in a sterile liquid (usually bacteriostatic water) for use.
Bacteriostatic Water (BAC Water)
Sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, used for reconstituting peptides.
COA (Certificate of Analysis)
A document from an independent laboratory verifying the identity, purity, and quality of a peptide batch.

Handling Best Practices

  • Always work in a clean environment to prevent contamination
  • Use sterile syringes and equipment for reconstitution
  • Allow vials to reach room temperature before opening
  • Avoid shaking peptide solutions vigorously – gentle swirling is preferred
